Meet the Artist
Background
Kris is an Oregon based metal artist with a background in fabrication and blacksmithing. Her business, Meltdown Metal Art, was started on the east coast in 2019. Originally from Charleston, South Carolina, she has now established herself as an artist in Southern Oregon. Her inspiration derives from nature and many of her pieces mimic the beauty found around us. Spending her summers on the Rouge River and winters in the mountains the subtle undertones of the Pacific Northwest echo in each piece. Using steel, copper and natural patinas she strives to capture the movement and fragility of the natural world, and bring it into your home.
Made by hand
As technology pushes forward in our society, Kris continues to do things using classic methods. Taking care in sculpting each stem, leaf, and petal cut and textured using little more than her hands. It is shown in her work through all the details. The longer you look the more you find, not unlike walking through the forest.
Getting down to the patina of things
To maintain a natural feel, Kris chooses to bring life into her work by utilizing the existing colors of the metal, by using heat, or bringing out the patina of the metal itself. The browns and blues you'll find are done with a chemical process giving her art an almost aging depth that wouldnt be obtained otherwise.
